Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB gaming performance – First benchmarks
Comments
The cat’s out of the bag then, and the GeForce RTX 20 Super refresh will begin rolling out from the July 9th. At the bottom of the heap will be the GeForce RTX 2060 Super, although it happens to be the bottom of a mighty fine looking heap.
Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2060 Super has rocked up and made vanilla RTX 2060 owners feel very sad indeed. Those great but overpriced cards have now effectively been replaced by a performance heavy successor which appears to be everything we’d hoped for in the first place.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB Specs
Specs-wise, the GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB slots in snugly between the RTX 2060 and the RTX 2070. However, it’s been gifted with an extra couple of GB of GDDR6 memory which should help at higher resolutions, as well as a higher core clock than both its neighbours, helping nudge the RTX 2060 Super into the realm of the RTX 2070.

The GeForce RTX 2060 Super offers almost identical performance to the current GeForce RTX 2070. It’s also $100 cheaper, so it’s obvious where the benefits lie here. At $50 cheaper, the RTX 2060 still has its place but you’re now getting a very decent jump in performance for making that leap from a $350 RTX 2060 up to a $400 RTX 2060 Super. That extra couple of gigs of VRAM is sure to come in handy down the line as well.
Performance at 1080p is, predictably, fantastic for the RTX 2060 Super 8GB. This is a graphics card which will just breeze through the latest AAA games at this resolution, although we’d still expect one or two snags once ray tracing’s involved.
The RTX 2060 Super is also an incredibly strong 1440p video card and does a fantastic at aping the RTX 2070’s performance for just $399. That’s still a price that a lot of folks will balk at but the value proposition is certainly better than it once was. If I’d bought an RTX 2060 in the last few weeks I’d be feeling livid.
The higher the resolution, the more the Super card can stretch its legs over the bog-standard RTX 2060. That extra 2GB GDDR6 is certainly going to come in handy. 4K gaming is arguably a bridge too far for this graphics card though, and you should certainly be aiming higher if you want to reliably game at 4K.
On paper, at least, it looks as if Nvidia has rocked up and delivered a graphics card which could well go toe-to-toe with AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 5700 XT with a 20% cheaper price tag. Gulp. Until we find out the actual 5700 XT performance that’s all ifs and maybes though, and the here and now the RTX 2060 Super shows all the hallmarks of a satisfying yet hardly groundbreaking refresh.
