Nvidia GeForce RTX 20 Super Series revealed, RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super out July 9th

Finally, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 20 Super series has been revealed. Nvidia’s new stack of products has arrived just in the nick of time, poised to steal the limelight from AMD’s imminent Radeon RX 5700 launch. The GeForce RTX 20 Series is a refresh in the purest terms, but the end result is prospective Nvidia customers are getting more bang for their bang. If you bought an RTX 2060, 2070, or 2080 in the past month, it’s safe to say you may feel a little stung.

After all the conflicting rumours buzzing around, we now know we’ll be getting three Super variants – GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB, GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8GB, and GeForce RTX 2080 Super 8GB. Simple.

The GeForce RTX 2060 and GeForce RTX 2080 Ti will remain on the market, while the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080 will be getting consigned to the scrap heap. They’re a performance bump over what’s gone before, yet under the hood, it’s much of the same tech powering these things.

Performance-wise, the GeForce RTX 2060 Super is neck and neck with a GeForce RTX 2070, while the GeForce RTX 2070 Super is just a few percentage points shy of the GeForce RTX 2080.

RTX 2070 Super 8GB vs RTX 2080

For AMD, this becomes a real head in hands moment. While we have now is only half the story, the shine has certainly been taken off of AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 XT and Radeon RX 5700 launches on Sunday. Nvidia isn’t pushing boundaries here but it’s certainly offering a much stronger package compared to this time yesterday. The GeForce Super series is effectively the same price as the graphics cards it’s replacing, with a handy performance boost on top. Where once the RTX series seemed a bit of a rip-off, the first sprouts of genuine value are beginning to appear.

If you happen to already own a GeForce RTX graphics card, this probably won’t be enough to tempt you into an upgrade anytime soon. If you’re a GTX 10 series owner and you haven’t upgraded yet, then odds are good this probably isn’t enough to make you feel the itch just yet. However, anyone with an older graphics card will probably be giving this latest crop their full attention. These are the performance gains we were originally hoping for when the GeForce RTX 20 series was announced, papering over the cracks of what was a rather lacklustre GPU gen from Nvidia in terms of price to performance.

Both the GeForce RTX 2060 Super and GeForce RTX 2070 Super are out on July 9th, with the GeForce RTX 2080 Super to follow on July 23rd. AMD’s Navi-powered RX 5700 graphics cards are out on July 7th.
