Sapphire trademarks tons of Radeon RX 5000 GPUs, including RX 5950 XT, RX 5800, and more

AMD add-in-board partner Sapphire has just trademarked the names of almost two dozen different new graphics cards variants. It looks as if Sapphire is trying to cover all of its bases here, trademarking Sapphire versions of an entire range of unannounced AMD Radeon RX 5000 series graphics cards.
From the off, it looks as if Sapphire is going for a scattergun approach here. Sapphire is AMD’s single biggest board partner and has likely already been informed of a few potential new Radeon RX 5000 graphics cards coming down the pipeline, trademarking as many variants as possible to cover all bases. We seriously doubt AMD would release this many graphics cards within a single family, although never say never.

If we had to guess, we believe Sapphire is obviously aware of a fair few more Radeon RX 5000 graphics cards than we know of currently. It feels almost certain AMD is planning to introduce both higher-end and lower-end Navi graphics cards. AMD hasn’t named its new GPUs the Radeon RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT for nothing. The naming leaves plenty of room both above and below.
It’s looking increasingly likely AMD is planning to launch high-end Radeon RX 5000 graphics cards with big chips either later this year or early in 2020. Sapphire even seems to be banking on dual-GPU variants. Perhaps it’ll finally be time for AMD to battle it out at the top-end once more?
