Gears 5 has been available for the past three days for those of you with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, or those who bought the $100 Ultimate Edition. Today is Gears 5’s official launch day though (it’s available on Steam and everything) and that means one thing – new driver time for Nvidia.

The sort-of-Day-One Game Ready GeForce driver update for Gears 5 adds some last-minute performance optimisations for GeForce graphics card users. I ran through a couple of quick benchmark runs to compare to yesterday’s Gear 5 benchmarks and I couldn’t detect any noticeable change in performance, at least outside of a 1-2% margin for error. Those with different hardware may notice a change but performance on the GeForce RTX 2060 remains largely static between driver versions.

Nvidia’s GeForce 436.30 graphics card driver also adds up-to-date support for both Borderlands 3 (out on Friday) and the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare PC Open Beta (starts next weekend).

Along with this, we get the usual list of fixed and known issues which you should keep an eye out for. Of particular interest are the known issues, with both Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and FIFA 19 suffering potential crashes to desktop with the GeForce 436.30 installed. If you play either of those games frequently, you should probably hold out on the update for now.

[Firefox][G-SYNC]: When G-SYNC is enabled, flickering occurs with YouTube fullscreen video playback on FireFox when hovering over the timeline. Windows 10 Issues

[G-SYNC]: NVIDIA G-SYNC might not be enabled automatically for monitors newly approved as G-SYNC-Compatible upon updating the driver. To work around, enable the monitor by opening the NVIDIA Control Panel->Display->Set Up G-SYNC page, then select the display and select Enable settings for the selected display. [SpaceEngine]: The game crashes when launched. [UBOAT]: The game crashes due to memory allocation issues when launching Sandbox mode from the main menu. [Tom Clancy’s The Division II]: The game may crash when played in DirectX 12 mode. [FIFA 19]: The game may crash to the desktop.

Windows 7 Issues

[Vulkan-based games]: Error message appears in the game when invoking GeForce Experience Freestyle or Ansel using the hot keys.

As ever, you can download the driver direct from Nvidia or auto-update through GeForce Experience.
