Multiple sources are reporting with some degree of certainty that a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake is in development and on track to launch at some point in 2020.
Resident Evil 2 Remake launched in January of this year and proved both a critical and commercial hit, notching up close to 5 million copies sold and becoming the joint-highest reviewed game of the year, sharing the honours with Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers and Disco Elysium.
Back then, Capcom intimated that future such remakes would depend on the success of Resi Evil 2 Remake. Based on its knock-out success, and we have to assume a remake is also much cheaper to make than an all-new game, then Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake always seemed like a safe bet. Having been terrified by Mr. X in RE2 Remake, just the thought of being chased by Nemesis again after all these years is giving me the heebie jeebies.
Anyway, the rumour originated on YouTube channel Spawn Wave but this has subsequently been backed up by sources close to Eurogamer and VGC, among others.
Resident Evil 3 Remake isn’t the only RE in development though. Project Resistance has also been announced but this is an asymmetric 4v1 multiplayer game with a seemingly big focus on combat. Capcom is probably at least kicking around ideas for Resident Evil 8 as well, although we’d imagine that one will be a little further afield.
