Entry-level AMD Radeon RX 5300 XT graphics card spotted in HP desktop PC

While AMD has only officially announced the desktop Radeon RX 5300 and mobile Radeon RX 5300M graphics cards, it would appear leading PC builder HP has leaked the existence of the oft-rumoured AMD Radeon RX 5300 XT 4GB.

A desktop variant of the Radeon RX 5300 XT has appeared in the specs sheet for the HP Pavilion TP01-0004ng desktop PC. It’s not exactly overflowing with details but the HP Pavilion Desktop includes AMD Radeon 5300 XT graphics with 4GB GDDR5 memory. Previous rumours had pointed toward the use of faster GDDR6 memory, so the use of previous-gen GDDR5 is a little unexpected.

We’re still waiting on the Radeon RX 5500 to launch, let alone the Radeon RX 5300 series, but we’re certainly expecting AMD to flesh out the entry-level and mid-tier graphics card ranges soon enough. The upcoming Radeon RX 5300 series will absolutely be entry-level, by which we mean the more affordable end of the spectrum.

In terms of the 5300 series, the Radeon RX 5300 XT would be top of the pile. If the 5700 XT is anything to go by then the Radeon RX 5300 XT can be expected to have more RDNA Compute Units (CUs). It’s all based on the same 7nm Navi 14 chips though, which means up to 1536 Stream Processors (Cores) on 24 CUs, along with either 4GB or 8GB VRAM on a 128-bit memory interface.

Whatever’s happening, AMD needs to do it fast. It’s been well over four months since the Radeon RX 5700 series launched and we still haven’t got either the RX 5500 or RX 5300 series graphics cards. For all the good AMD has done lately, it’s not really not serving the lower-end of the graphics card market particularly well. A launch this side of Christmas has to be seen as a must. Once we come out into 2020 the focus will be shifting to AMD’s RDNA2 architecture and Nvidia’s 7nm GeForce Ampere.
