Nvidia recommends you update your GeForce drivers immediately to avoid severe security flaws

Nvidia has pushed out a new GPU security driver update and are recommending GeForce owners download the patch as soon as possible. The Nvidia GeForce 431.60 driver tackles a grand total of five critical security flaws. If left unpatched, Nvidia warns this may lead to “local code execution, denial of service, or escalation of privileges.”

Each of the security flaws has been assigned a threat score based upon just how dangerous they may be. This rise from a relatively low 5.2 for CVE‑2019‑5687, which can allow an attacker to extract information, all the up to an 8.8 for CVE‑2019‑5683, a flaw which could allow an attacker to create a hard link with a system and could lead to code execution, denial of service, or escalation of privileges.

In total, three of these vulnerabilities are classed as high severity while two are medium severity. You can see them for yourself via the table below.

Affected graphics cards include GeForce, Quadro, and Tesla, with additional security updates coming to Quadro and Tesla users on the weeks of August 12th and August 19th. If you’ve just got a regular GeForce graphics card though then the process is pretty straightforward – just download the latest Nvidia GeForce 431.60 graphics card driver and you’re protected.

As always, you can update to the latest GPU driver through your current GeForce Experience installation or you can download it directly from here.
