Custom-cooled AIB Radeon RX 5700 series GPUs appearing for pre-order – Launch imminent
It’s been a bit of a wait but it looks as if custom AIB versions of AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics cards should be available soon.
The base RX 5700 series with its 7nm Navi GPUs launched on July 7th. For a full month, we’ve only been able to pick up AMD’s reference models. They’re decent, for sure, but the Navi chip could stand to benefit from more efficient cooling systems.
While an official launch date for Add-In-Board partners’ AMD Radeon RX 5700 series video cards is yet to be announced, the first custom models are already creeping up for pre-order. UK store Overlockers UK already has a range of Sapphire and Asus RX 5700 GPUs. A lot of them come with hefty price overheads, such as Asus Radeon RX 5700 XT ROG Strix OC for £499. This is likely just a placeholder as the standard models can be had for as little as £380 right now.
They’re the ones we know about for sure, while various XFX and PowerColor leaks have promised other board partners are getting in on the action soon as well. XFX have gone for the spectacular with the XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II. You read that right.
Reading the lay of the land, it feels as if AMD’s RX 5700 series has already got off to a pretty strong start with just the reference models. The reception was positive and it sounds like a fair few have already got their hands on one. However, most folks tend to like waiting for the AIB variants in order to benefit from enhanced cooling or pre-overlocked designs. The new models should provide a nice boost for AMD’s latest series and, well, it’s just nice to see AMD compete at the high-end for once.
Judging from the number of leaks and listings, we expect we’re no more than a couple of days away from AIB Radeon RX 5700’s finding their way into supply channels.
