Microïds and PlayMagic have announced the remaster of cult cel-shaded shooter XIII has been delayed. Originally scheduled to launch on November 13th, XIII Remake has now been pushed back to a vague 2020 date. It’s probably for the best. Launching in November is suicide for a game the scale of XIII, it would just disappear without a trace. Its original launch was within one week of Death Stranding, Pokemon, Star Wars Jedi, and Shenmue 3. Get it the heck out of there and don’t look back.

“We are thrilled with PlayMagic’s work so far,” says François Coulon, head of production at Microïds. “This additional development time is needed to reach the level of polish we’re aiming for. The announcement was greeted by an overwhelming response from the community and we’ll make sure to deliver the best possible game to our fans.”

If XIII isn’t a game that was ever on your radar, back in the day it was a great stealth shooter. There’s a bit of No One Lives Forever to its shenanigans (not quite as good, of course), dropping the player into a madcap plot in which they’re accused of killing the President of the United States. Waking up on Brighton beach without any memory, the only clues you have are a tattoo with the Roman numerals XIII and a key.

XIII was always a generous single-player title as well, packing in 34 levels for what is an extensive story campaign.

XIII is out in 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
