Seven years on since the franchise last docked in the world of PC gaming, Kalypso has announced Port Royale 4. Gaming Minds are at the helm once again, having enjoyed mixed success with Port Royale 3 back in 2012.

Announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Port Royale 4 is a strategy management title set in the 17th century Caribbean. Join the colonial powers of Spain, England, France, and the Netherlands as they vie for supremacy, conquer lands, and, I don’t know, rinse them of resources and capture slaves??? We’ll find out just how accurate it is soon enough.

In Port Royale 4, players assume the role of a young governor, raising their homeland from a small settlement into a huge trading city. More than 60 Caribbean cities are mapped onto the world, allowing for extensive trade networks as rum and other luxuries wend their way from island to island.

Out on the high seas, things take a more violent route. Rival nations are out there, as well as pirates and other privateers. Ship-to-ship warfare takes the form of turn-based naval battles, the victor earning the spoils of war.

Port Royale 4 is currently scheduled to come to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch of all places, at some point in Q3 2020.
