Okay, so we got a bit ahead of ourselves earlier with the stories about Nvidia bringing RTX raytracing support to Minecraft and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It turns out those were just the tip of an increasingly deep iceberg. No fewer than 10 upcoming games have been given the RTX treatment, heralding Nvidia’s arrival at Gamescom, Cologne in some style.
So we’ve had Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Minecraft already, of course, but we also got a fresh look at Control, the first scraps of information of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 ray-tracing effects, Watch Dogs: Legion, Wolfenstein Youngblood (finally!), Metro Exodus: The Colonels DLC, and Synced: Off Planet, a new MMO from Tencent, the Chinese mega-conglomerate who will soon own your livers and you’ll be paying them directly to filter out the alcohol.
As with every time we see it, Vampire Bloodlines 2 is positively oozing style. It’s ultimately not really going to matter one bit to your enjoyment whether you play it with raytracing on or off, but if you do then it appears to be a lovely additional layer which helps with the mood lighting and reflective surfaces. Talking of reflections, Watch Dogs Legion looks another big winner on this front. RTX raytracing doesn’t seem to be doing a great deal outside of reflections but, well, it’s set in London so there are more than enough puddles to gaze lovingly into.
There are no new trailers for Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2, unfortunately, but we do at least have further confirmation that both titles are set to take advantage of Nvidia’s graphics technology in a big way.
It’s been a slow start but things are starting to really heat up for GeForce RTX owners. While there are only a small handful of titles currently available, most of the biggest and best upcoming titles appear to be supporting RTX in some form or other.
