Sneakily becoming one of the biggest commercial hits of 2017, Ghost Recon Wildlands is set to get a grand successor when Ghost Recon Breakpoint arrives on October 4th. For those who want the best version of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, PC is naturally going to be the best place to play. Ubisoft will be providing native 4K resolution support, an uncapped frame rate, ultra-wide and multi-monitor support. The full package then, although taking a look at Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s PC specs you’re going to need a very powerful gaming PC to take advantage of all of this.

As you can see, Ubisoft has provided a fairly exhaustive list of specs for Ghost Recon Breakpoint, although they’ve missed one fairly crucial piece of information – target frame rate. If Breakpoint is in the same ballpark as Ghost Recon Wildlands in terms of how demanding it is, these specs could well be aimed at 30 frames per second. The RTX 2080 hits around 38fps @ 4K/Ultra in Wildlands, for example, and we’d assume a sequel two years later would be more demanding rather than less demanding. If this is the case then in GR: Breakpoint we’ve got ourselves an incredibly demanding open-world shooter, at least if you want to play on higher graphics settings and resolutions.
As for why the Ultra 1080p and 1440p requirements are identical, we have no idea. We can only assume it’s actually possible to play 1080p/Ultra with a weaker video card, perhaps along the lines of a GeForce GTX 1070 or a Radeon RX Vega 56, but it’s all guesswork at this point.
Fortunately, down at the lower-end we definitely appear to have some wiggle room. Ubisoft claims the minimum spec GPUs for Breakpoint are a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon RX 280. However, this is for playing at 1080p/Low. If you’re willing to drop down to 900p or 720p then this could well open up Ghost Recon Breakpoint to a much wider range of systems.
One thing to bear in mind is Wildlands was both poorly optimised and massively demanding, particularly in terms of CPU usage. If Breakpoint is a similar deal then we expect it’ll guzzle up all the CPU firepower you throw at it. It’s unusual but a lot of Ghost Recon Breakpoint could well end up CPU-bound.
