Ubisoft has surprise released a brand new Rabbids game. Hush your groaning at the back there. Rabbids Coding isn’t just a Rabbids game, it’s full-blown edutainment. And yes, we know this sounds awful for the self-proclaimed ‘hardcore’ gamers but Rabbids Coding does at least look like a neat entry point into the very basics of coding.
Rabbids Coding is a game designed for all ages, although it’s obviously geared towards a younger audience. Ubisoft is recommending it for ages seven or up and it’s designed for first-time coders. If you’re an experienced coder, you can probably stay well away unless you’re absolutely pining for a free game to play.
A grand total of 32 levels are feature, running through sequential programming, loops, and conditions. Players are then encouraged to make their coding sequence as efficient as possible. I have to say, coding under the irritating gaze of the Rabbids must certainly bring its own stressful pressures.
“Ubisoft is committed to preparing the next generation of video game developers, and what better way to start teaching them the basics of coding than with a fun and interactive learning experience,” said Olivier Palmieri, game director. “We strongly believe that video games can play an important role in learning new technical skills, and we’re looking forward to sharing Rabbids Coding as a teaching tool for all ages.”
Rabbids Coding is out now on the Uplay store on PC, and it’s free if you fancy killing some time.
