With every AAA publisher seemingly hellbent on chasing the MMO-lite looter shooter cash, Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds is refreshingly old-school. Heavily inspired by their previous work, Fallout New Vegas, The Outer Worlds is a wholly single-player first-person RPG with a lengthy campaign and none of the microtransaction trappings. So far, so good, but what about what PC hardware you’ll need to play The Outer Worlds. Find out with our look at the official PC system specs for The Outer Worlds.
The Outer Worlds Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows 7 64-bit CPU: Intel Core i3-3225 2-Core 3.3 GHz or AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 6-Core 3.3GHz RAM: 4 GB System Memory GPU RAM: 1 GB Video Memory GPU: GeForce GTX 650 Ti or Radeon HD 7850 HDD: 40 GB Available Hard Drive Space DX: DirectX 11
The Outer Worlds Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows 10 64-bit CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K 4-Core 4.2 GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 6-Core 3.2 GHz RAM: 8 GB System Memory GPU RAM: 4 GB Video Memory GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or AMD Radeon RX 470 4GB HDD: 40 GB Available Hard Drive Space DX: DirectX 11
The Outer Worlds sits firmly outside of typical AAA fare, which handily means some very approachable system specs. In order to meet Outer Worlds’ minimum system requirements you’ll only need a fairly low-spec PC from the last 6 years or so. Obsidian recommends a low-end DX11 graphics card such as a GeForce GTX 650 Ti or Radeon HD 7850 with at least 1GB VRAM.
The minimum spec CPUs suggest an Intel Core i3-3225. This is a dual-core processor without multi-threading so this is an unusually low minimum spec requirement in 2019. This indicates The Outer Worlds’ process may focus on just a handful of cores rather than extensive threaded support.
It’s a different picture if you want to make The Outer Worlds really shine. Obsidian believes you’ll be needing a mid-tier GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 470 4GB in order to crank up the visuals in Outer Worlds at 1080p screen resolution. The recommended RAM also doubles to 8GB, although this is pretty much standard in all systems these days.
