PUNG Corp has announced the formation of a new studio. The new outfit is known as ‘Striking Distance’ and will be helmed by Glen Schofield, the general manager and co-founder of Sledgehammer Games, as well as the creator of the Dead Space series.

Based in San Ramon, California, Striking Distance will be focused on the development of ‘narrative experiences’ set within the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds universe. “Freedom to explore the PUBG universe has me excited about the possibilities,” says Schofield, “which we view as beyond battle royale.”

Up until this point, PUBG Corp has been exclusively interested in, well, PUBG, but evidently, they see the potential to expand this universe narratively. It’s not exactly a franchise packed with deep lore, although it does mean Schofield and the team at Striking Distance do have a nice clean canvas to work with.

“That vision is taken to the next level as our development and service portfolio expands and diversifies with Glen Schofield and Striking Distance,” said PUBG Corporation’s CEO, C.H. Kim. “We are thrilled to welcome Glen to the company. His unique blend of proven leadership and boundless creativity will help us create great synergy.”

It sounds as if this new studio is embryonic at this stage, so we could still be some time away from finding out just what they’re cooking up. Schofield doesn’t appear to even have the development assembled just yet but we’ll certainly be intrigued to see what they’re going to cook up.
