AMD Ryzen 16-Core 5.2 GHz CPU leaked benchmark blows away Intel Core i9-9980XE performance

Comments

Following hot on the heels of yesterday’s Ryzen 5 3600 leak, the first benchmarks for AMD’s monstrous upcoming 16-core Ryzen 9 have leaked. It’s unclear just which of the 7nm Ryzen 3000 series CPUs this benchmark actually comes from, as the specs don’t quite align with of processors AMD has officially announced.

With a base frequency of 3.3 GHz, this 16C/32T CPU is actually clocked 200 MHz slower than the top-end Ryzen 9 3950X. Either it’s completely different CPU we’re dealing with here, or this is an early engineering sample of AMD’s HEDT chip that isn’t quite up to speed yet.

Whatever the case, what we have on hands here is an absolute beast. It is running with an all-core overclock of 5.2 GHz. Yep, that’s right. All 16 cores are clocked at 5.2 GHz for the benchmark tests. This is a surefire indicator that AMD’s Zen 2 architecture is going to have some immense overlocking potential right out of the box.

When it comes to performance, this unknown Ryzen 3000 CPU achieved a score of 6714 single-core performance in Geekbench, as well as 64953 multi-core score. If we stack this up against Intel’s $2000 Core i9-9980XE, the AMD Ryzen 9 blows it aware. The Core i9-9980XE 18-core achieves 5528 single-core score and 60,124 multi-core score.

While it’s difficult to know with any certainty what we’re dealing with here, this CPU manages to comfortably outperform Intel’s fastest ever desktop processor with room to spare. While evidently not quite the same CPU, the 16-core Ryzen 9 3950X with a base clock of 3.5 GHz is set to retail for $749. Regardless of whether this latest processor is anywhere near that, it’s panic time for Intel. AMD is making headway with high-end processors and it looks damned determine to wrestle the crown back from Intel.
