Borderlands 3 will be with us in just over two months time, ready to scratch that looter-shooter itch we’ve been harbouring since The Division 2 came, went, and disappeared into the great void of ‘meh’. But, just how long will Gearbox’s shooter be scratching the aforementioned itch?
Well, creative director Paul Sage confirmed to GamesBeat that Borderlands 3 will be in the region of 35 hours long if players are to just blast straight through the main story campaign.
“I’d still say we were very ambitious,” explained Sage. “My tech team would say we were really ambitious sometimes. There’s so much to the game. We go to these different worlds. The length of the game being 35 hours, if you just go through the main story — that’s not including doing too many side missions. I think there was a lot of ambition right at the beginning.”
It’s par for the course, really, and means Borderlands 3 may ultimately end up being a smidgen longer than Borderlands 2 was at launch. The launch is just the beginning though, and we expect a cavalcade of downloadable expansions to extend Borderlands 3’s shelf life, as well as New Game + and the various assortment of side-quests that typically bumps the playtime up into the stratosphere.
35 hours would probably be too long for your typical FPS campaign, yet Borderlands 3’s focus on co-op and loot shooting means it should be able to keep most folks hooked for longer. For those thirsting for more, we expect a single playthrough shouldn’t be enough to reach the level cap.
Borderlands 3 is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 13th. There are three different editions at launch depending on how much cash you want to throw Randy Pitchford’s way, ranging from the bog-standard edition up to the ‘Super Deluxe Edition’ which includes bonus skins, assorted cosmetic trash found in Gearbox’s ‘Recycle Bin’, and four campaign DLC packs.
