Top-end 7nm Navi Radeon RX graphics cards are coming confirms AMD’s Lisa Su

While AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 series graphics cards are now being snatched off store shelves worldwide, and offering decent price to performance, Team Red still doesn’t have anything which can even come close to competing with Nvidia’s top-end GeForce graphics cards.

On that front, we may not have long to wait. AMD is cooking up its enthusiast-tier 7nm Navi GPUs behind the scenes, and we expect the Radeon RX 5800 series to make a splash at some point.

AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed as much during AMD’s recent financial reports, answering questions from investors over the future of their high-end graphics cards. High-end GPUs utilising the 7nm Navi architecture are absolutely on the way.

“I would say they are coming,” Su said, somewhat cryptically. “You should expect that our execution on those are on track and we have a rich 7nm portfolio beyond the products that we have currently announced in the upcoming quarters.”

She’s treading a bit of a tightrope here, naturally, as she’ll know exactly when the Navi 12 GPUs are expected but she’s also got to protect the sales of the RX 5700 series and keep demand high.

AMD has also reportedly discontinued its flagship Radeon VII graphics card according to rumours a fortnight ago. If true, this leaves the high-end of the market wide open for AMD and clears the way for a larger GPU such as the Radeon RX 5800 XT. It means the Radeon RX 5700 XT is AMD’s current top-end GPU. Available for $399 following AMD’s pre-launch price cuts, this leaves a ton of pricing headroom for some new video cards.
