The list of benefits to Nvidia’s GeForce RTX graphics cards is steadily becoming longer. Next on the ticket is Capcom’s bestselling game ever – Monster Hunter World. The sublime co-op action-RPG is due to be updated with Nvidia DLSS support tomorrow, July 17th.

DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, is a rendering technique which utilises the Tensor Cores found on the RTX 20-series graphics cards to deliver an  AI-powered antialiasing solution which can improve frame rates and playable resolutions. Nvidia is claiming DLSS support in Monster Hunter World can improve frame rates by up to 50% when playing at 4K resolution.

MonHun World is an incredibly demanding game, for whatever reason, and up until this point, 4K/60fps at Ultra with a single GPU has been impossible, even with the mighty GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Nvidia claims an RTX 2080 Ti jumps from 46.7 frames per second up to 71.6 FPS in Monster Hunter World with DLSS enabled.

Of course, the glaring downside to DLSS has always been the loss in image quality. Frame rates are faster and resolutions are higher but, in Metro Exodus, for example, it looks as if some chump has smeared a tub of vaseline over your monitor. On that front, Monster Hunter: World debuts a brand new feature for DLSS – a sharpness slider. Its implementation sounds simple enough; it’s a slider which users can adjust to make the image sharper or softer depending on their personal preference. Making it sharper could potentially highlight instances of aliasing and reduce frame rates, although we’ll look to test it tomorrow and see what the deal is.

In order to take advantage of DLSS in MonHun World, you’ll need a GeForce RTX graphics card, the very latest GeForce Game Ready Driver (431.36), the game update which is due out July 17th, and, optionally, the High-Resolution Texture Pack.
