New Navi RX 5700 GPUs Price Drop Ahead Of Launch To Compete Against Nvidia’s RTX Super

AMD have announced that they will be lowering their initial launch prices tomorrow, 7th july, of their new Navi based RX 5700 and RX 5700XT. This will better compete against the recently announced Nvidia RTX Super graphics cards. This continued competition is great for PC gamers, as the giant graphics card companies compete they are forced to readdress their pricing structure.

AMD mentioned the following to us in a press release yesterday. 

“AMD is focused on providing gamers with amazing experiences and access to the very best gaming technology at attractive price points. As you have seen, competition is heating up in the GPU market. We embrace competition, which drives innovation to the benefit of gamers. In that spirit, we are updating the pricing of our Radeon RX 5700 Series graphics cards.”

And so, just a day before the AMD Navi graphics card launch, (keep watch for our RX 5700 benchmark performance review once the embargo lifts) we see that AMD have lowered their launch prices by $30 for the RX 5700 and $50 lower for the RX 5700XT. While we are only hearing about the lowering price in dollars at the moment, it is certainly expected that this price reduction is global and so similar price drops will be seen in UK pounds and European euros.

Performance wise AMD’s new cards were aligned against the Nvidia RTX 2060 (RX 5700) and the RTX 2070 (RX 5700XT). But with Nvidia pushing forward performance reviews of their improved RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 Super, this left the original RX 5700 launch prices looking somewhat poor value for money and so this price change by AMD should re-address that imbalance.

Lets take a look at the new price list as they stand now.

You can see that AMDs top end card is not getting any price adjustment yet. But this could change later in the month, when the RTX 2080 Super turns up and performance reviews start showing what it can do. But for now it is sitting firmly against the original RTX 2080.

Its worth noting that the Nvidia RTX cards come with tech not available on the AMD side, even in the new Navi architecture, like Ray Tracing acceleration and variable rate shading. But how much do those technologies actually pushing sales and how much are ignored as straight up marketing hype when considering how many games are available today and in the future with these improvements?

However, this is certainly a good step forward by AMD, to keep their inbound products relevant all the way to market. Tomorrow we will see the actual performance capabilities of the New RX 5700s, so keep an eye out for our benchmark reviews on this.
