The first gaming benchmark score has surfaced for the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super, as well as both of AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards.
Benchmark results come courtesy of Final Fantasy XV’s benchmark database, that most reliable resource for leaks these days. The GeForce RTX 2070 Super nudges some way ahead of the graphics card its replacing, although still falls a long way short of the GeForce RTX 2080 and GTX 1080 Ti.

We said earlier this week we expect a 10-15% performance uplift from these Super refreshes and this looks to be bang on the money. The GeForce RTX 2070 Super scores a 13.5% higher frame rate than the RTX 2070 in the Final Fantasy XV benchmark. There could be some slight gain if new drivers are released, although we imagine this is actual review hardware with review drivers being used.
It’s not exactly the most exciting exciting leap in performance but it’s a leap all the same, helping Nvidia keep AMD at arms length.For current RTX owners, it hardly justifies running out any buying an upgrade, but when weighing up the similarly priced RTX 2070 Super and the Radeon RX 5700 XT there’s a clear winner, in this particular test at least.
For AMD, the picture is muddier. Final Fantasy XV is a game which heavily favours Nvidia hardware so it comes as little surprise to see both the Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5700 XT struggle against the competition. This benchmark chart is actually missing the Radeon RX 5700’s chief competitor, the RTX 2060, which scores around 5500 in FFXV 1440p High benchmark tests. The end result, in these tests at least, is the 7nm Navi-powered Radeon RX 5700 only just outscores the GTX 1660 Ti.
The Radeon RX 5700 XT fares better, obviously, almost drawing neck and neck with the GTX 1070 Ti. Considering it’s $120 more expensive than the non-XT variant though, it comes off as being considerably worse value for money. The worrying part is just how far behind the RTX 2070 it falls. The RTX 2070 scores a massive 22% higher than the 5700 XT in these tests. These GPUs are supposed to be neck and neck, and when we factor in the RTX 2070 Super, AMD is being lapped in these tests.
However, the major caveat which we just cannot ignore in these benchmarks is how heavily Final Fantasy XV favours Nvidia. It’s still all to play for with the Radeon RX 5700 XT sure to pull ahead in games which play to its strengths.
We’re expecting the first benchmarks and reviews for the GeForce RTX 20 Series on July 2nd, while AMD will be following up with the Radeon RX 5700 series on July 7th.
