AMD has announced a range of AMD Ryzen Pro 3000 series processors designed to offer energy-efficient performance for business desktop PCs. These offerings are laser targeted at enterprise users with HP and Lenovo already on-board to deliver pre-build PCs to the cubicle crew.

There is a fairly large stack of seven new AMD Ryzen 3000 processors announced, including Pro variants for Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7, Ryzen 5, and Ryzen 3, as well as one new ultra-budget AMD Athlon Pro chip. A few of these new Ryzen Pro desktop processors also come with in-built Vega graphics.

“The launch of the Ryzen Pro 3000 Series processors for commercial and small business users is the latest demonstration of our commitment to technology leadership in 2019,” said Saied Moshkelani, senior vice president and general manager, AMD Client Compute. “Designed specifically to efficiently data-crunch, design, compose, and create – AMD Ryzen Pro and Athlon Pro processors accelerate enhanced business productivity while offering protection safeguards with built-in security features, such as full system memory encryption and a dedicated, on-die security processor.”

The entire point of the AMD Ryzen Pro range is to keep electricity costs down while offering solid performance and in-built security that should check a few boxes for security conscious IT admins. AMD claim Ryzen Pro 3rd Gen offers up to 2x the performance of Intel processors at the same TDP, remaining cool and quiet while in an office environment.

On the security front, we’re looking at built-in GuardMI technology which utilises a security co-processor. There’s also AMD Memory Guard with full system-wide encryption.

From the looks of things, the AMD Ryzen Pro 3rd Gen range is going to be available from OEMs only, at least at this stage. The aforementioned Lenovo and HP have already announced a range of AMD Ryzen Pro desktop PCs and availability should begin at the start of October.
