AMD Ryzen 9 3900 12-Core CPU leaks through Biostar’s motherboard documentation

Comments

It’s not exactly what we were expecting but AMD could be preparing an AMD Ryzen 9 3900 CPU according to some motherboard documentation which has slipped out of Biostar.

We’ve all been sat around waiting for 16-core 32-thread Ryzen 9 3950X to materialise but that was hit with a delay until at least November, alongside the arrival of AMD’s top-tier 3rd Gen Ryzen Threadripper CPUs. That might not be all that AMD has up its sleeves though, with a potential Ryzen 9 3900 arriving to offer up 12-core performance for a slighter price than the already popular Ryzen 9 3900X.

The unannounced AMD Ryzen 9 3900 processor has now cropped up in numerous places, including this motherboard support documentation from Biostar, some Geekbench benchmark entries, and some EEC documents which suggest Team Red is gearing up for an imminent release.

According to the leaked specs which are now circulating, we’re looking at a 12C/24T CPU which runs at a reduced frequency when compared to the $499 Ryzen 9 3900X. We’re looking at 3.1 GHz base and 4.2 GHz boost. It’s not exactly ideal for applications relying on strong single-core performance but it’s multi-core chops are probably fairly enviable.

In terms of pricing, we would expect the Ryzen 9 3900 to nestle right in between the Ryzen 7 3800X and Ryzen 3900X at around $449.
