Nvidia has a vested interest in selling as many GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards as humanly possible and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, well, it’ll almost certainly be the biggest game to come out this year. The two should be a match made in ray-traced heaven, as some new footage from Nvidia attempts to demonstrate.
Here we’ve got a couple of minutes of gameplay footage from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s 2v2 Gunfight game mode, this time with the full power of ray-tracing enabled. COD: MW sticks to the tried and trusted ray-traced shadows, the likes of which we saw in Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The focus for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s ray-traced shadows appears to be ray-traced spot light shadows. These are directional lights such as streetlights and ceiling lighting, casting more shadows and utilising realistic penumbras.
I have been tremendously impressed by the implementation of ray-tracing in Remedy’s Control but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare absolutely does not across as well, at least in this footage. I sunk a couple of hours in the COD: Modern Warfare PS4 alpha a couple of weeks ago and, image quality aside, this doesn’t exactly look night and day better. Perhaps the end product will be more impressive but this is hardly looking like an experience which will get GeForce RTX graphics cards flying off the shelves.
If you’re looking forward to getting a hands-on with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare yourself, the PC beta test will be kicking off from September 19th. Early Access requires a pre-order, while the open beta will be open to everyone from September 21st-23rd.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 25th.
