EA didn’t surprise us with yesterday’s Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville announcement but the release date definitely did take us by surprise. PvZ: Battle for Neighborville is out right now in early access form, with a full launch planned for October 18th. It’s more of the same manic multiplayer third-person shooter action, this time with a whole lot more of everything. Interestingly, in comparison to PvZ: Garden Warfare 2, the system requirements for Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville have actually dropped across the board. Visually we’re not really seeing any drop, Battle for Neighborville is a great looking game, but EA has clearly been working some optimisation magic underneath the hood.
The good news then is you’ll only need a PC that’s around five years old to meet the recommended requirements for PvZ: BfN, which is very rare for a AAA title. EA suggests you’ll need a quad-core processor, 8GB RAM, and either a GeForce GTX 970 or a 2GB Radeon R9 285 (down from an R9 290 for Garden Warfare 2). That’s very reasonable and should ensure Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville runs very well even on comparatively low-end systems.
If your PC is right at the lower-end though, then PvZ: Battle for Neighborville still has you covered. The minimum specs are absolutely ancient. Even the newest hardware here is seven years old so we really don’t envisage many folks struggling to run Battle for Neighborville in a playable form.
The one thing you do need to keep an eye out for is the OS requirement. For whatever reason, EA are suggesting the minimum OS you’ll need is Windows 10 64-bit, ruling out Windows 7 users entirely. We’d be surprised if this is actually the case, particularly since Windows 7 supports DirectX 12 these days, but it’s certainly something we hope to explore.
