Ubisoft has officially launched its Uplay+ subscription gaming service, offering PC gamers access to a library of more than 100 PC games for a monthly subscription fee.

Just to get the ball rolling, users can participate in a free trial which runs from now all the way through until September 30th. You won’t have to spend a penny to enjoy full access to the library of Uplay+ titles, although be warned you should cancel your subscription before the month is up if you want to avoid moving onto the paid service.

The list of games includes pretty much every Ubisoft published game available on PC, including the likes of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Far Cry: New Dawn, The Division 2, and upcoming titles such as Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Watch Dogs Legion, as and when they are available.

Somewhat, erm, mysteriously, one game is missing though. Anno 1800, Ubisoft’s most recent big PC release, is conspicuous by its absence. It’s still advertised front and centre of the Uplay+ page but Ubisoft is claiming Anno 1800 isn’t available “due to technical reasons”. Technical reasons which have absolutely nothing to do with Ubisoft being unwilling to let PC gamers play a four-month-old game for free. Ubisoft has said it’ll be providing a more precise release date on when Anno 1800 will be available “when we can”. Who wants to join me in betting it’s available on October 1st, the day after the free trial ends?

As for the all-important pricing, Uplay+ will be available for a somewhat steep $14.99/€14.99 (UK price TBD, just as soon as the UK decides which pathway of political hell it’s taking) per month. For this, you do get access to the super duper $100 premium editions of games though, so it could work out a much cheaper way of playing the latest titles.

You can sign up to the Uplay+ free trial and get playing right now by following this link.

And no, you cannot keep any of the games you download during the free trial. Once your subscription lapses, any of the Uplay+ titles you have on your system will no longer work until you resubscribe or buy the game outright.

However, your game saves will remain. You could play a game during this trial, keep the game save, and pick up where you left off if you buy the game at a later date.

Anybody at least thinking of giving the free Uplay+ trial a shot? Could this end up being your preferred way of playing the latest Ubisoft titles, or no? Let us know what you think of it in the comments section below!
