Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord will finally be coming to Steam Early Access, some eight years after it was originally announced. TaleWorlds Entertainment has confirmed you’ll be able to buy and play Bannerlord from March 2020. It’s a bit of a wait but what’s another seven months after eight years?
What’s probably most surprising, however, is the fact Bannerlord will be launching in Early Access. We’ve been waiting for this game since 2012 and it still won’t be finished in 2020. It remains to be seen how just how content-rich and feature complete Mount & Blade 2’s Early Access launch is, of course, but clearly this is a product of monstrous ambition that needs a larger player base to put it through its paces.
Naturally enough, the decision has split the fan base asunder. Some are keen to get in there as early as possible to see what Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is all about, while others would prefer TaleWorlds knuckled down, held off and waited for the finished product.
Anyway, we’ve also got a brand spanking new trailer so you can see what the fuss is all about. Bannerlord promises to offer epic medieval simulation on the grandest of scales, complete with third-person action, top-down strategising, a sandbox economy, deep diplomacy systems, and comprehensive mod tools. It sounds like the sort of game you could end up playing for thousands of hours and never experience it all it has to offer, which would certainly make the epic wait worth it.
Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is out on PC in March 2020.
