It’s the two-year anniversary since Age of Empires 4 was announced and we somewhat foolishly hoped we’d get more news from Microsoft at Gamescom today. Sadly, it wasn’t to be, although Age of Empires fans have hardly been left empty-handed.
First up, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is now out on Steam. Originally launching as a Windows Store exclusive, you can now play AoE: Definitive Edition through your preferred PC gaming client. In addition, there’s fully cross-play functionality between Windows Store and Steam players. Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is also available as part of Xbox Game Pass for PC.
And that’s not all either. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition has also been dated. Not to be confused with Age of Empires 2 HD, AoE2: Definitive Edition revamps the classic real-time strategy with enhanced AI, 4K visuals, new expansion content, and reworked online content.
Microsoft is touting around 200 hours of single-player content with Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, encompassing all released expansions plus the all-new ‘The Last Khans’ DLC which adds three new campaigns and four new civilizations.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will launch on November 14th across both the Microsoft Store and Steam. It’ll feature cross-play multiplayer across both stores and will also be arriving as part of Xbox Game Pass for PC.
