Infinity Ward has dropped all the gory details surrounding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Season One, which kicks off on December 3rd. It’s being touted as the “biggest free content drop in Call of Duty history”, a fact that’s pretty difficult to argue with when you see it all laid bare.
With paid map packs now a thing of the past for the Call of Duty franchise, Modern
Warfare will be receiving these big free season drops of content. Activision’s cash money will undoubtedly come from selling cosmetics and battle passes.
Onward then, to the free content which will be available to all players. It includes a minimum of six new maps on December 3rd, with more to come. The original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is getting some loving here, with the classic Crash, Vacant, and Shipment maps arriving for the standard multiplayer modes.
Those who are fans of the large-scale Ground War mode will be treated to a new map called Port, which will be set in a, er, port, complete with boats, shipping crates, cranes, and all sorts of another annoying places for snipers to camp.
Finally, those who have the impeccable taste of preferring the 2v2 Gunfight mode will receive Cargo, Atrium, “and more”. Gunfight is probably the strongest new addition to the franchise in a long time, stripping out much of the bullshit and honing it down to 2v2 symmetrical combat with identical weapons and no respawns. There’s a decent enough mix of maps already, to be honest, but more are certainly always welcome.
It’s not just maps though. The OSP (On Site Procurement) variant of Gunfight will also be available. This was featured in Modern Warfare’s beta but not in the launch version. It’s Gunfight but with weapon pickups rather than predefined loadouts.
Reinforce is a mode which mixes Domination and Search & Destroy; players have a single life and teams compete for control of three flags. There’s also Infected, a survival party game mode where one person is infected and then must infect the other players until there’s one person left standing.
For those who can stomach the Spec Ops co-op missions, there will also be multiple new modes and modes to work through.
*Deep breath* And finally, there will be two new weapons to unlock through the free version of the battle pass. The Ram-7 is a fully automatic bullpup AR while the Holger-26 is an LMG variant of the Holger rifle, complete with drum magazine.
Infinity Ward has said most, if not all, of this content will drop on December 3rd and there may also be additional content added through Season One.
