With much of 2019 now disappearing into the rear-view mirror, there remains just a handful of notable releases before we ring in the new year. The long-awaited return of the MechWarrior franchise is probably the biggest of the bunch though. This is a PC titan coming back home, and new gameplay revealed from MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries shows this could be shaping up to be quite the mech battler.
As any fan of 40-foot robots knows, half the fun is in the destruction. On this front, MechWarrior 5 doesn’t look as if it’s going to disappoint. Pretty much everything in the game can be blown to smithereens, opening up new sight lines and bending the map to your whim.
The other half comes from totally nerding out over the mechs themselves. Players can buy all sorts of different mechs to suit a particular mission, such as the sprightly Shadowhawk or the heavy duty Atlas. Each of the mechs can then be fitted with a custom inventory, all of which can have a positive or negative effect of stats such as armour, firepower, range, and movement speed. On the cosmetic front, each individual component on the mech can also have a custom skin applied; useful if drab gunmetal has you nodding off.
MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries comes exclusively to PC on December 10th. Sadly, for the Epic Store detractors, it’s going to be an Epic Games Store exclusive, at least for the time being.
