I know you’ve all been itching for DirectX 12 support in Fortnite and now your wish has been granted. Seriously, someone was looking forward to this, right? It’s the headline feature of AMD’s new Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.11.3 graphics card driver and it also happens to be one of the biggest games in the world right now.
DX12 support isn’t actually in Fortnite right now but will be getting added very soon, according to Epic Games. Fortnite version 11.20 will be the update which adds Microsoft DirectX 12 support, a move which Epic claims will help PC players achieve both higher and steadier frame rates while using high-end GPUs. We’d imagine those with high-end graphics cards are already achieving insane FPS in Fortnite as is, so we doubt the changes will be particularly noticeable aside from this with extreme high refresh rate monitors.
In addition to this, the DX12 update for Fortnite will deliver better CPU performance through better multi-threading. Rendering jobs will be distributed across multiple cores more effectively.
And that’s basically it in terms of features for AMD’s latest graphics card driver. There are no other fixes whatsoever, so all you need to do is check out the known issues and ensure there’s nothing which could be too problematic for you if you update your AMD GPU drivers.
Radeon Adrenalin 19.11.3 Known Issues
Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products may intermittently experience loss of display or video signal during gameplay. Radeon RX 5700 series graphics products may experience stutter in some games at 1080p and low game settings. Performance Metrics Overlay may cause stutter or screen flashing on some applications. Toggling HDR may cause system instability during gaming when Radeon ReLive is enabled. AMD Radeon VII may experience elevated memory clocks at idle or on desktop. Performance Metrics Overlay may report incorrect VRAM utilization. Invoking Radeon Overlay may cause games to lose focus or become minimized when HDR is enabled within Windows.
