Netflix’s small-screen adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher novels is coming to the streaming giant’s subscription service on December 20th.
Season 1 of The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Freya Allan as Ciri. The initial run is for eight episodes, although we suspect there could be plenty more in the pipeline if it proves a hit for Netflix.
In addition to the premiere date, Netflix has also dropped the ‘main trailer’ for The Witcher. It’s a little bit more comprehensive than the teaser trailer we got a few months back, although we’re still not particularly wise to the events which are unfolding. Geralt certainly doesn’t look as if he’s doing much Witching. Or ploughing for that matter. No, no, bigger things are afoot here, like some classic bathtub shots. Good stuff.
The jury’s still out on whether The Witcher will actually end up any good or not but the timing could hardly be better. A December 20th launch means it should be perfect for some holiday bingeing. It definitely beats having to sit through Elf for the 18th time.
What do you make of the trailer, is this how you’d hope The Witcher would look? Is it faithful enough to the books for you? Share your thoughts below!
