Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming to PC in just over a week’s time. Originally launching on PS4 and Xbox One on October 26th, 2018, we’ve patiently waited a year to enjoy the ultimate version of Rockstar’s magnum opus. RDR2 will be playable with top-end PC hardware and will showcase PC exclusive graphics technology.

The wait is nearly up though. Red Dead Redemption 2 comes to PC on November 5th, 2019, through the Rockstar Games Launcher and the Epic Games Store. It offers a massive 60-hour story to work through, charting an epic journey across America during a time of great upheaval. It also includes Red Dead Online, full online multiplayer Red Dead which has improved dramatically since the beta on consoles last year.

With the benefit of increased draw distances and higher frame rates, Red Dead Redemption 2’s Wild West really does come alive. In addition to the extended draw distance, PC players will also benefit from improved shadows and lighting, new grass and fur textures, and more.

Does Red Dead Redemption 2 have GeForce RTX real-time ray tracing support?

Sadly, Red Dead Redemption 2 does not currently have official support real-time ray tracing. Officially, neither Rockstar nor Nvidia have announced plans for ray-tracing support in RDR2.

However, we did speak to Nvidia this week and were greeted with a denial from a PR representative while Adam Foat, Director of Technical and Product Marketing, just gave us a wry smile. Who knows, perhaps this could be something Nvidia and Rockstar are planning to add to Red Dead 3 at a later point.

Failing that, modders may turn their hand to adding an analogous form of raytracing through the use of ReShades. This form of raytracing has been growing in popularity and has been used in a number of games such as Crysis 3, The Witcher 3, and Minecraft. ReShade mods are completely free although they can be very demanding when lighting is involved. They use a solution which minimises the number of rays cast. We would imagine it won’t be long until some enterprising mod expert finds a way to make RDR2 looking even better with ReShade raytracing support.
