Rumour – The Last of Us: Part 2 has been delayed to later in 2020

UPDATE: It’s now been confirmed. The Last of Us Part 2 has been pushed back just over three months to a new launch date on May 29th, 2020.

“However, it was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality,” writes Naughty Dog VP Neil Druckmann. “At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.”

Original: The Last Of Us: Part II has reportedly been delayed. It’s the sort of news PlayStation 4 owners have been dreading and yet news of delay has emerged less than one month after Sony and Naughty Dog hosted a spectacular release date reveal event for The Last of Us 2.

Kotaku’s got the scoop on this one and it sounds as if they may have been sitting on it and cross referencing sources for at least a couple of days. They have now heard from two people associated with Naughty Dog that TLOU2 has been pushed back later into 2020. We can absolutely see this being true, basically.

Previously scheduled to launch on February 21st, 2020, The Last of Us 2 has now allegedly been scheduled for a vague ‘Spring 2020’ launch. This would mean a release window of March to early June, 2020.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has yet to comment on the delay, although we’d imagine this leak means official confirmation should come along shortly.

In addition to this, Kotaku’s Jason Schreier has said Ghost of Tsushima has been delayed internally due to The Last of Us 2. He claims it’s now been shunted into a late 2020 launch although insists this doesn’t mean it’s become a PS5 title.
