Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 delayed, ‘don’t want to repeat mistakes of original’

In what is quite clearly the worst news since, well, Doom Eternal was delayed last week, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has suffered a similar fate.
Originally pencilled in to launch at some point in March 2020, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has now been pushed back to an indefinite date later in 2020. Avoiding March and April definitely sounds like the sensible option, what with the looming shadow of Cyberpunk 2077.
“Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 will launch later in 2020 than we planned. Simply put, we believe quality is more important than releasing in Q1,” wrote developer Hardsuit Labs in a brief statement on Twitter.
In a lengthy blog post, Hardsuit’s Andy Kipling and Brian Mitsoda went into plenty more detail on the circumstances surrounding the delay. In a nutshell, they’re aware the original Bloodlines launched in a rough, buggy state and they don’t want to repeat those exact same mistakes.
“There are some things we wanted to hit under all circumstances when we set out to follow in Bloodlines’ footsteps: A deep, branching storyline; fascinating and amazingly acted characters; the rich universe of the World of Darkness. We firmly believe that we’re on the right track to get you all of this.
“On the flip side, there’s the responsibility to avoid some of the issues that plagued the first game, which was famously launched too early. Over the last few months, it became clear that to stick to our original date would risk repeating that mistake. We won’t do that. In the end, everyone working on this game wants to offer you the best Bloodlines 2 we can.”
Not ideal then but, in the context of the fact WE’RE ACTUALLY GETTING A VAMPIRE BLOODLINES SEQUEL, it’s really not so bad. I still have to pinch myself every time I remember this is actually happening so a small delay is just a drop in the ocean.
On a purely selfish note, it makes my gaming plans much easier. Doom Eternal was going to have to wait until a sale if it launched around the same time as Vampire: Bloodlines 2, but this saves me from a tough dilemma.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will launch in 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
