Like any good revenge tale, Red Dead Redemption 2 had to go through a, well, a redemption arc, fittingly enough. Arthur Morgan and the rest of the Van der Linde gnag suffered an ignominious defeat at the hands of God of War in 12 Games of Christmas 2018. 12 months later, Red Dead Redemption 2 picked up the pieces, made the pilgrimage to PC, and blew the other 11 games into oblivion.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has finally walked out a worth winner and declared the Most Wanted Game of Christmas 2019. Knowing Arthur he’s probably going to take the prize straight down to the local fence in exchange for a packet of ciggies.

How the community voting worked

Each day at 17:00 GMT two titles have battled each other. Whichever title receiveed the most votes in the poll wins, and will then go through to the next round. 12 games in total have battled away, leaving six alive. Those six games which won then made it through to the semi-finals, where three further 1v1 fights take place. The winners of these three battles then took part in the three-way final  yesterday to decide the ultimate game this Christmas.

Grand Final – Red Dead Redemption 2 v Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order v Resident Evil 2 Remake

I have to say I’m a little surprised at just how poorly Resident Evil 2 Remake fared. I thought we had a sly underdog on our hands there but it slumped into third place and earned well under half the votes for Red Dead Redemption 2. As for Star Wars Jedi? I have no idea how it even made it to the final but it certainly held its own for a while until RDR2 streaked ahead, so congratulations to Rockstar and our winner.
