In the run up to The Outer Worlds’ launch, all the talking surround DLC was pretty emphatic ‘no’ from developer Obsidian. It was a once-and-done game, the sort of complete package which we, sadly, rarely get these days.
Well, things change, especially once the money starts rolling out. The Outer Worlds has been scooping up numerous awards this month, attracting widespread critical acclaim and earning, we suspect, sizeable sales compared to a typical Obsidian product.
As a result of all of this, Obsidian has announced the plan is to now expand the story and the universe of The Outer Worlds with additional story DLC in 2020. The first-person RPG kind of wraps up with a neat bow on top, which could make crow-barring additional story content quite awkward, but it certainly ain’t the last we’ve seen of the Halcyon Colony.
“To all of those who voted for us in The Game Awards, you are all fantastic and we are so grateful for your support,” writes Obsidian. “The reception to The Outer Worlds has been unbelievable to see, and even just being nominated means a lot. However, the journey isn’t over yet as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year! Details will be made available at a later date.
“We just wanted to personally thank our team for doing a wonderful job and our fans for their tremendous support.”
Keep an eye out, then, for plenty more from The Outer Worlds as we head into 2020.
