XSEED Games Reveals That Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Has

Earlier this month, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin’s success in Japan led to halting publisher Marvelous’ stock price.

XSEED Games – publishing brand of Marvelous USA – has now confirmed that Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin sold 500,000 copies globally, making it one of the company’s best selling titles.

The 500,000 copies sold include both digital and retail versions of the 2D brawler/farming sim hybrid, the latter having “largely sold out,” according to the publisher.

“We’ve known that Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin was a special game and would have broad appeal since our first meeting with Edelweiss,” said Kenji Hosoi, Executive Vice President at XSEED Games.

“The game has been in development for many years, and we’re beyond excited at the reception it has received globally from critics and consumers alike. Thank you to everyone who has accompanied Sakuna and her companions on their journey!”

When we reviewed Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, we found that although it’s “an acquired taste, those who like their games unique should have a fun time with Sakuna,” before scoring it an 8.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is available now on PC, via Steam, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
