It turns out THQ Nordic aren’t the only mid-tier publisher comfortable throwing their weight around. Bigben Interactive, publisher of the WRC series, The Sinking City, Warhammer: Chaosbane, and deep cut from my younger days Evil Twin, has snapped up French developer Spiders.

Spiders are a studio which has been gradually been in quality, year after, with a back catalogue which includes Of Orcs and Men, Mars: War Logs, and The Technomancer. Next on the platter is GreedFall, an immensely promising colonial/fantasy RPG coming to PC and consoles this September.

The exact amount of the acquisition has not been disclosed, but the cash payment will go through by early September. Just in time for GreedFall’s launch then, and Bigben is really beginning to step up to fellow French publisher Focus Home Interactive these days. They now own Styx and Call of Cthulhu developer Cyanide, WRC developer Kylotonn Racing, and Warhammer Chaosbane studio Eko Software.

This acquisition fits perfectly with Bigben’s strategy to increase its know-how in the development of video games in the AA strategic segment,” said Alain Falc, CEO of Bigben. “We are delighted to welcome the talents of Spiders who will strengthen our Development unit and participate in new and even more ambitious projects.”

Jehanne Rousseau, CEO and co-founder of Spiders, is also understandably pleased with the deal, saying “We look forward to joining the Bigben Group, a reference player in the video games industry whose strategic vision we fully share. Becoming part of the Bigben Group is a unique opportunity to accelerate our development alongside other quality studios, byintegrating an environment conducive to the creation of ever more qualitative games.”

GreedFall comes to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 10th.
