Borderlands 3 recently went gold, meaning it’s finished and ready for launch in just over a month’s time. In the meantime, developer Gearbox has revealed the opening 14 minutes of Borderlands 3, showcasing exactly what’s in store during those first few moments.

Suffice to say, very minor spoiler warning. If you want to go in completely fresh, you may want to give this video a wide berth.

For the rest of you who’ve remained though, the opening portion of Borderlands 3 looks remarkably similar to both Borderlands and Borderlands 2. Players start on the home planet of Pandora once again, while The Most Annoying Thing In Existence is still delivering all the tutorial tips and objectives. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, we guess.

Obviously, Borderlands 3 isn’t going to win any awards for pixel-pushing but it’s certainly quite an eye-catching game. Even in this 1080p PC footage, there’s a certain crispness to the cel-shaded style, while animations and textures are definitely a cut above Borderlands 2. We can see much more complex level geometry on offer and, all in all, it’s a neat-looking game. We’re still waiting on those all-important PC system specs, though we can’t be far off now.

Borderlands 3 comes to PC (via the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 13th.
