Nvidia has dropped the briefest of RTX trailers for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Not only does the footage contain one of first peeks at COD: Modern Warfare’s single-player campaign, it also showcases the GeForce RTX-powered real-time ray-tracing effects which will be available at launch.

As it currently stands, real-time ray-tracing is a feat only possible (with playable frame rates) on GeForce RTX 20 series graphics cards. It’s theoretically possible on select GeForce GTX GPUs but good luck getting a playable frame rate.

It all marks a major shift for Call of Duty, a franchise which is hopping back aboard the high-end graphics train. COD: MW is shipping using a brand-new game engine for, we believe, the first time in franchise history, opening the door to all sorts of additional graphical goodies such as ray-tracing.

Here’s a look at raytraced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) in action:

As far as RTX trailers, this one’s probably the weakest we’ve seen yet. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and real-time raytracing sound like a match made in heaven but the final effort leaves a lot to be desired. Nvidia and Infinity Ward have basically gone all-in on the ray-traced shadows. With the end result, you can barely tell the difference, at least in this particular trailer.  There’s a bit, for sure, but it’s not exactly the strongest reason to rush out and buy a GeForce RTX graphics right now, although a nice little bonus for those who enjoy squinting at tiny differences.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare comes to PC (as well as PS4 and Xbox One) via Battle.net on October 25th, while there’s an open beta test from September 19th.
