Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord was announced well before the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were even revealed. It’s been a wait of epic proportions, the sort of tale the bards will song about long after we’re gone. But, here we are, seven years later, and Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord is finally about to get its first proper multiplayer beta test.

TaleWorlds Entertainment announced its intentions to host a multiplayer beta earlier this year, and now it’s prepared to share a few more details on where it’s headed. They’ve been busy setting up the multiplayer beta internally, downloading and playing from their own homes. Then they started inviting friends and family, ensuring it works as smoothly as possible.

“While doing all of this, we kept on polishing the game as well as developing the necessary infrastructure for a smooth multiplayer experience,” explains TaleWorlds.

“We created a matchmaking system, as well as systems for deploying servers and monitoring their performance. We also started working on systems that would collect data from played matches so that we could analyze this information and make more informed decisions for future development. In addition to collecting data, we thought about the best ways to receive feedback from players and put it into use, creating questionnaires and special forum sections for this purpose.”

Which then brings us to the here and now, where a select few members of the Mount & Blade community were invited to participate in a closed beta for Bannerlord 2 this week. It seems invites are extremely limited though, with TornBanner preferring to keep things “small and manageable”.

Have no fear though, for the time will come for the rest of us soon after. After this stage of closed beta, Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord will kick off a large-scale open beta. Unfortunately, there are no further details on exactly when this is, although we’re optimistic it’s at least going to be sometime this year.

Did anyone here manage to sneak into the Bannerlord closed beta? When do you think this game is finally going to be released?
