Rumour: Custom AIB AMD Radeon RX 5700 series designs won’t launch until at least mid-August

We’re rapidly barreling towards the July 7th release date for AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 series, although if you’re holding out hope to get your hands on any juicy custom designs with garish RGB lighting or custom cooling solutions then you could be fat out of luck.

A new report indicates there will be no custom AMD Radeon RX 5700 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT designs from AIB partners at launch. The only op[tion we’ll allegedly have is the vanilla AMD reference designs, or, if you’re feeling a little flush, the gold-tinted Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition for 50 bucks extra.

According to Fudzilla, the “best case scenario” is that custom versions of the Radeon RX 5700 series will be available in mid-August, at the earliest. That’s around a six-week wait then if you don’t want the reference RX 5700 design.

In the meantime, we should get all sorts of announcements and teases from AIB partners during the month before. That should quell the appetite a little, although we’re sure folks will be keen to get these graphics cards in their machines as quickly as possible.

And, if you just cannot possibly wait, it sounds as if AMD’s reference boards should be decent enough. Each comes with an aluminum alloy shroud and backplate, vapor chamber cooling, a 7-phase power system for overclocking, graphite-based TIM and optimised airflow design. Whether it’ll actually stack up to some of the finer AIB partner designs remains to be seen.

Of course, all of this information needs to be taken with a smidgen of salt. Fudzilla is the only reference point here, although the slow adoption from AIB partners for recent high-end AMD graphics card designs certainly indicates this will probably be the case.
