EA Sports has dropped a bomb with the reveal of the FIFA 20 cover stars. Thank the lord they haven’t opted for Ronaldo or Messi yet again because that was getting boring about eight years ago.

Instead, we’ve got a pair of brand new cover stars for FIFA 20. Chelsea fans’ hearts will probably break at the sight of Eden Hazard on the FIFA 20 Standard Edition. He’s traded Chelsea for Real Madrid over the summer, and anything that makes Chelsea fans miserable is okay by me. Absolutely fantastic player though, if a bit on the naff end of the spectrum.

“EA SPORTS FIFA is the biggest Football game on the planet, and I have been playing it for years against my brothers,” said the Belgian. “I am lucky to have been on the cover before but to be on FIFA 20 globally is amazing and I hope to excite as many gamers as I do when I take the field for Real Madrid this season!” Yep, they’re definitely his words. They definitely came out of his mouth exactly like that. I’m always asking my mates whether they want to play EA SPORTS FIFA.

Ahem. Then we’ve got the Champions Edition, starring Liverpool and Netherland’s Virgil van Dijk. To the best of my knowledge, we haven’t had a defender as a cover star since Roberto Carlos back in FIFA 2003. Van Dijk is easily one of the best in the world these days, and a class act to boot, so that gets a big ol’ thumbs up.

“It is a huge honour for me to be on the cover of FIFA 20“ said Virgil van Dijk. “I’ve been playing FIFA for as long as I can remember and so it’s an extremely proud moment for me to be representing Liverpool FC on the cover of such an iconic game“.

EA is going to reveal the cover star of FIFA 20’s Ultimate Edition in a separate announcement, although it surely has to be the one and only Sead Kolasinac after his heroics wielding off two knife-wielding carjackers this week. Please EA, it’s been 14 years since a Gooner has graced the cover. Don’t make me beg.

FIFA 20 is coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on September 27th.
