Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8GB gaming performance – First benchmarks
Comments
And now it’s time to take a look at the middle of Nvidia’s pack of ‘Super’ RTX graphics cards. The GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8GB is coming along to completely phase out the standard RTX 2070, offering specs which split the balance between the RTX 2070 and the GeForce RTX 2080.
The numbers only tell half the story though, with the GeForce RTX 2070 Super coming along to make both the 2070 and 2080 redundant in one fell swoop.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8GB Specs
The GeForce RTX 2070 Super is, quite simply, a better GeForce RTX 2070. It comes loaded with more CUDA Cores, higher clock speeds, greater ray-tracing capability, and the same 8GB GDDR6 memory. Under the hood, it’s sporting a TU104 GPU this time around, rather than TU106, providing a cut-down RTX 2080 experience.

Rubbing noses with the GeForce RTX 2080 is no mean feat but the GeForce RTX 2070 Super manages to come within a few percentage points of a graphics card $200 its superior. As of July 7th, you can effectively get RTX 2080 performance for $200 cheaper than you can today.
What we have on our hands here with the RTX 2070 Super is a graphics card which is an absolute powerhouse at 1440p which could be ideal for those with high-refresh rate monitors. It’s also extremely capable at 4K provided you knock one or two settings down, representing what is quite clearly the most affordable single-GPU 4K solution yet at $499. It’s certainly 1440p where we see this card shining though, hitting that sweet spot where you’ve got plenty of performance headroom for the years to come.
Overall, we’re looking at about a 10% increase in performance over the standard RTX 2070. It’s hardly the sort of thing to get RTX 2070 owners rushing out and upgrading, but it’s nothing to be sniffed at either. While we’re waiting on AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 XT to launch, we suspect it’s also going to be enough to nuzzle the 2070 Super ahead in the performance stakes. It also happens to have the ace card of ray-tracing capabilities up its sleeve as well, a taste of the future which helps to boost the value proposition of what is still an expensive graphics card stack from Nvidia.
Priced at $499, the GeForce RTX 2070 Super 8GB will be available from July 9th.
