This time we’ve taken yet another step forward and an announcement for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC appears to be imminent. The Australian Classification board has now approved Red Dead Redemption 2 for release in Australia, seemingly for PC.
Rockstar has dotted the i’s and crossed t’s, and have now been given the go-ahead to give us what we’ve all been waiting for.
It all ties in very nicely with the arrival of the Rockstar Games Launcher, and we’re holding onto our prediction that Red Dead 2 will potentially come to PC on the same date as Google Stadia’s launch day (which is pencilled in for November). There are rumours the PC version could slip to December or early 2020 but the bottom line is we shouldn’t have too long to wait.
I’ve actually been sinking a ton of time in RDR2 this past fortnight thanks to the recent Frontier Futures update. More specifically, Red Dead Online, which is gradually turned into something really rather special and altogether different from the infuriating griefing that goes on in GTA Online. It was and still is an absolutely stunning looking game, even on consoles, and the prospect of being able to play on PC at higher resolutions, frame rates, and with reduced input latency has us feeling like a cowpoke at his first rodeo.
UPDATE: 23-Sep-2019 – Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC refused classification in Australia for a second time
An expected PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 has been declined classification by the Australasian Classification Board for a second time, meaning the game is deemed unfit for release in Australia.
The last time we were on this particular rodeo, a game codenamed ‘Bonaire’ was refused classification. There were rumours at the time his referred to Red Dead on PC. This time, we can go a step further as evidence mounts for a PC version.
Over on the Australian Government’s official ratings page, Red Dead Redemption 2 was given an RC (Refused Classification) rating on August 20th, 2019, for an undisclosed platform. Red Dead Redemption 2 is, of course, already available to buy in Australia for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
This is the firmest news yet of a PC version of RDR2, although it would appear the inclusion of the Rockstar Editor tools are holding up a release down under. The same situation happened with GTA 5 on PC in Australia, although it eventually squeaked through with whatever tweaks were deemed necessary.
When we tally this up with Rockstar’s recently release Rockstar Games Launcher, well, you can connect the dots for yourself. Red Dead Redemption 2 is surely coming to PC, and it looks as if it’s probably not too far off from being officially announced either.

Giddy up pardner, we’re heading deep into rumour valley. We’re back to Red Dead Redemption 2 again, and Rockstar’s submission for a game codenamed ‘Bonaire’ to the Australian Classification Board. Rumours have been running a little wild as to what Bonaire could be. Was it new Red Dead Online content? Could Bonaire be single-player DLC set in the Caribbean?
Well, grab a pinch of salt Marston because noted Rockstar insider ‘Tez2’ over on Twitter has claimed ‘Bonaire’ is Rockstar’s codename for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC.
As for ‘Bonaire’, well, the Australian Classification Board has been refused classification for the mysterious title, meaning whatever game it is it’s being prevented from release in Australia.
“Rockstar mysterious title called “Bonaire” is the code name for RDR2 PC,” wrote Tez2 on Twitter. “As to why it was refused classification is unknown, but I would assume it’s because of something new within the PC version as the Australian government seems to be okay with the console versions.”
The Australian Classification Board also had problems with GTA V’s ‘Rockstar Editor’ when that launched in 2015. Rockstar Editor is the in-game tool for making your own videos, which the ACB alleged could be used to “alter context” and show “repetitive depictions of violence”. Red Dead Redemption 2 looks a whole lot more lifelike than GTA V so it stands to reason it would run into similar troubles getting its own video capture tools released.
There have been a ton of rumours swirling about ‘Bonaire’ but, adhering to the trusty philosophy of Occam’s razor, this one here is the one which makes the most sense. It stands to reason that RDR2 will come to PC, so if Rockstar is trying to get a game rated it’s infinitely more likely than something wild like GTA VI or Bully 2.
