Square Enix has gone a bit wild with new screenshots for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake, showing off plenty of familiar areas for the first time. FFVII Remake looks both faithful and refreshingly new, breathing new life into some iconic locales found in Midgar such as Aerith’s house, the Sector 5 church, and the surprisingly quaint village which Aerith is living in, albeit under constant threat of impending doom.
A number of new character models have also been shared, as well as some action-packed screenshots, playable minigames, and even the menus and upgrade trees for those who really want to get into the weeds.
That’s not all for Final Fantasy VII either. As you’re probably aware by now, the FFVII Remake which is due to launch in March on PS4 is just a tiny slice of the original game. Square Enix has now confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 is now in active development. Considering the first remake only covers Midgar, for the most part, it’s unclear just how many parts are going to be required to remake the entire JRPG. I’m betting on at least four, personally, so I’ll be sure to see in 2033 when we can finally see this epic saga come to a close.
Final Fantasy VII Remake comes to PlayStation 4 on March 3rd, 2020. There’s no PC or Xbox One version confirmed just yet, although don’t be surprised to see it come to these platforms later in the year.
