Valve’s decision to target VR for its first new Half-Life game in 12 years was always going to prove divisive. Fans have been desperate for either Half-Life 2: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 for well over a decade. Whichever way you slice it, a VR-exclusive Half-Life 2 prequel probably isn’t what most were wanting. To be honest though, give your head a wobble; Half-Life: Alyx is a brand new Half-Life, it’s what we’ve been desperate for years.
Having told us that Half-Life: Alyx exists on Tuesday, Valve has now finally unleashed the first trailer for its AAA Half-Life virtual reality title. When we say AAA, we mean it as well. This looks like the premium Half-Life 3 experience you’d always dreamed of, only this time it’s strapped to your face.
Half-Life: Alyx is set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, with Alyx as the star, obviously enough. Alyx and her father Eli are working together in resistance against the Combine threat.
Half-Life: Alyx will be coming to Steam in March 2020 and will be playable using Valve Index, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets.
