Matrix Games Showcase Stream Delves Deeper into Four
Publisher Slitherine today delved deeper into four of its upcoming wargames, as part of the Matrix Games Showcase event which it announced last week.
Wargame enthusiasts have quite a bit to look forward to, with War in the East 2, Decisive Campaigns – Ardennes Offensive, Flashpoint Campaigns – Southern Storm, and Warplan Pacific being on the horizon.
Three of the titles featured during the Matrix Games showcase event tackle different battles of the Second World War, with the next entry in the Flashpoint Campaigns series beings set towards the conclusion of the Cold War.

War in the East 2 completely overhauls the original game, resulting in a more realistic, historically rich and challenging take on the battles of the Eastern Front.
It launches with seven operational scenarios and three full map campaigns that include smaller engagements like the Battle for Velikie Luki – which acts as short tutorial – and massive ones like Operation Barbarossa.
The title boasts developer 2by3 Games’ best AI to date, while dividing its map into regions, adding double rail, and introducing Air Divisions that let you more easily control your airborne forces.
Decisive Campaigns: Ardennes Offensive focuses on the engagements that took place in that region between December 1944 and January 1945.
With a scale set to “just above tactical level,” players can go through its full campaign scenario which spans more than 16 days or opt for smaller scenarios focusing on the battles around St. Vith and Bastogne.
The title emphasizes the importance of reconnaissance by introducing line of sight to the series. Traffic congestion rules are part of its overhauled supply system, while advancing over open terrain is riskier thanks to the new intercept fire feature.
Warplan Pacific moves away from the European portion of World War II, focusing on the nations embroiled in conflict in the Pacific theater between December 1941 and 1945.
Its hex-based map features 15 different terrain types while fog of war determines how much information you have when heading into a fight.
Maintaining momentum is impossible without a sturdy production line and oil, manpower, logistics, strategic resources, trade agreements, and convoy zones all play into it.
Lastly, Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm steps a bit closer to the modern day, taking place at the conclusion of the Cold War, in the summer of 1989.
France, Canada, East-Germany and Czechoslovakia join the series as new factions, the title promising a revamped UI, a deeper combat experience but also more units and formations.
If you missed the Matrix Games Showcase, you can still check out the four interviews that aired while it was live.
These featured Kraken Studios’ Alvaro Sousa, VR Designs’ Victor Reikersz, On Target Simulations’ Rob Crandall and 2by3 Games’ Joel Billings.
