UPDATE: Well, that didn’t last long. The poster of the leak has admitted this info was 100% fabricated, the hilarious little swine that they are. So, nothing to see here ladies and gents, move along.

Original Story: We’re going to get out in front of this and say it’s almost assuredly some made up codswallop, but a rumour has been doing the rounds suggesting Rockstar is working on a Red Dead Redemption remake alongside some alien-themed single-player DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2. Again, the source for this is humongously sketchy; there’s not a pile of salt big enough for the pinch you’ll need, but we think it’s at least worth hearing it out.

The rumour originates from an anonymous Reddit user, which should already set alarm bells ringing. They have no track record of leaks but they claim to know a Rockstar Games environment artist (or should we say ‘ex-acquaintance’, if this leak is true).

Here’s the post in full, although be sure to put a peg on your nose to avoid the stench of bullshit:

“All the new features from the new game are going to be imported into RDR 1 plus the map is getting expanded a bit to make it more vast (rdr 2 map is not apart of this because it is not needed in the story, it’s mostly just making the desert bigger.)

“Rob has came back and recorded new lines of dialogue to help connect the two stories (References to Arthur and events of rdr 2 naturally). It was originally slated for the 10 year anniversary of RDR 1 but bugs have hindered the development a bit so they’ve shifted 2/3 of the Red Dead Online team to the Remake (hence the lack of an update as of yet.) And it’s currently in the timeframe of being released either December 2020- January of 2021.”

MINOR RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 LOCATION SPOILERS AHEAD

We’ve already posited the idea of a Red Dead Redemption DLC for RDR2 and it’s something that makes a great deal of sense. Red Dead 2 already features half of the original’s map and a number of the key characters, so it would be logical to remake it as DLC. Anyone who’s played Red Dead Redemption 2 could probably at least guess Rockstar is considering this. However, shifting ⅔ of the development team off of Red Dead Online just seems absurd. GTA Online eventually became an absolute cash cow and Rockstar will surely be investing heavily to try and ensure the same happens with Red Dead Online. That just isn’t happening.

Alongside the remake, the leaker suggests an alien-themed DLC is in the works, in much the same as we had Undead Nightmare for the original

“He is working on Red Dead Redemption 2 story DLC it’s in the middle of development right now and is slated for a release of Q1 2020. It is alien centered like people have rumored (this was hinted by the ufo Easter egg). You’re still Arthur in this DLC.”

We guess this could happen, despite the events of the base game. There are already allusions to aliens in the single-player, including mysterious meteors, craters, and even a family destroyed by a falling space rock.

Rockstar pulled a similar trick with RDR and it allowed a transition into a more fun-focused sandbox which could work in Rockstar’s favour. The major downside to the online right now is riding horses just ain’t that much fun, so the integration of some bizarre sci-fi elements to the core game may be feasible.

Considering the tenuous nature of these rumours we wouldn’t place much stock in either though. That’s not to say neither of these things could happen, but they smack more of educated guesses than an inside scoop. For now, we’d prefer Red Dead Redemption 2 just finally come to PC. How about it Rockstar?
